The city of São Paulo gains a new cultural attraction with the opening of the exhibition “Visual Narratives: The Encounter between Journalism and Art”, which will be inaugurated next Saturday at the Museum of Image and Sound (MIS). The exhibition brings together works by renowned artists and journalists who use photography, video art and installation as means to investigate and express contemporary social themes. Curated by Ana Carla Almeida and João Pedro Ferreira, the exhibition presents more than 50 works that engage with reality, addressing issues such as social inequality, environmental crises and human rights. The aim is to show how journalism can be a form of art and vice versa, transforming narratives and facts into impactful visual experiences. American continent. continente americano.

Among the works in the spotlight are photographic series by journalists such as Mariana Valente, who documented life in São Paulo’s outskirts, and videos by artists like Tiago Cordeiro, who explore the relationship between political oppression and freedom of expression. In addition to individual works, the exhibition also features collaborative projects, where artists and reporters joined to create visual accounts that challenge traditional media narratives. For curator Ana Carla Almeida, “the exhibition seeks to break the dichotomy between journalism and art. Both practices have the power to tell stories and provoke deep reflections about the world we live in.” João Pedro Ferreira adds: “Through the artistic gaze, we can reveal layers of meaning that are often forgotten in conventional reporting.” American continent.

In addition to the works on display, the MIS will promote a series of debates and lectures throughout the month, with the participation of artists, journalists and critics, discussing the role of art in the current informational context and how creativity can illuminate urgent issues of contemporary society.

The opening of the exhibition will take place at 7:00 PM, with a live performance by the artists’ collective “Body and Word”, which promises to provoke the public to reflect on the relationship between news and artistic narratives. Admission is free and everyone is invited to participate in this cultural exchange.

“Visual Narratives” runs until January 30, 2024, and promises to be a meeting point for lovers of art and information, offering a space to reimagine the way we consume and interpret news in the 21st century.
